This truly is a mobile era, we had 3G on mobile before, but it's really now the applications or apps that really expand the capabilities of our mobile phones today!

So what can you do with these so called 'gadgets' these days? Some of the most useful type of apps I've found are applications I've terms as 'remotes'. Basically, apps that control or access some service, or server.

A quick list shows the type of services I can control/access from my phone:

* Mythtv
* Drupal
* Ampache
* VLC Player
* VNC
* SSH
* IPMI

Many of us already love Ampache, the iAmpache app (free from the app store) is simply awsome!

I will at somepoint put a howto guide up for debian lenny with Ampache 3.5.x, along with how to set up the RPC API ACLs.

I also believe there's a similar app for Android mobiles called Amdroid, although I've not tried this my self.

The blogging applications available for the iPhone seem to be able to interface with the blog API provided by Drupal. The XML-RPC submission system seems to work for pages and stories too!

Drupad is a Drupal administration application to help sys admins. It's definitely useful. Bloggpress is an equally good iPhone app. However, it seems only to able to upload pictures or attach them to a node from picasa or flickr. I was really looking for something that could upload pictures direct from the pho e itself - shame as it's has a nice interface.

Let's see if we can attach a picture
